TO THE DEVIL, A DAUGHTER is one of Wheatley’s “Black Magic” novels (one of eleven out of his 60+ novels) recently reprinted by Bloomsbury. Though it doesn’t involve any of the protagonists of his earlier Black Magic novel (THE DEVIL RIDES OUT), TO THE DEVIL, A DAUGHTER is explicitly set in the same setting, with some of the events of /5(4).

To the Devil – a Daughter is undeniably a classic, and was even made into a movie in that featured none other than the great Christopher Lee as the villain. It has some great scenes in it, in particular an early visit by Colonel Verney to the villain’s Satanic altar. Dennis Yeats Wheatley (8 January – 10 November ) was an English writer whose prolific output of thrillers and occult novels made him one of the world's best-selling authors from the s through the s. His Gregory Sallust series was one of Notable works: The Devil Rides Out.

His master plan is to retrieve the daughter of Satan (Nastassja Kinski) from her hideaway in Germany, re-baptize her and become the power behind her he's thwarted by Richard Widmark, who plays a scholarly author of books on k outsmarts the crafty Lee by getting a permit to examine the forbidden books in the basement of St. Paul's and then anticipating what Lee's. To the Devil a Daughter is basically another story about chasing down a devil cult before it can sacrifice a victim. Like Hammer's previous The Devil Rides Out, it is also from a Dennis Wheatley book. That Terence Fisher film was a quaint period piece, and introduced some thrilling occult ideas, such as the protective properties of the magic.
